Timothy Broschat and Alan Meerow in Ornamental Palm Horticulture: "Several species of Ganoderma cause wood rot of palm trunks - Although Ganoderma is a soil-borne fungus, it produces airborne spores that readily colonize new areas. In areas where Ganoderma occurs*, it quickly colonizes stumps of palms that died from other causes and were cut down. Spores produced by these saprophytic conks can then infest nearby healthy palms. No known cure - destruction of the infested palms. *(Southeastern United States, Tropical Afrika, Australasia).
